Greetings -- welcome to my pages. And welcome to a place (above) reminiscent of ancient Tibet. I'm Christopher Childs; I'm
a writer/lecturer, activist, photographer, and actor, and author of _The Spirit's Terrain: Creativity, Activism, and Transformation_
(Beacon Press, 1998) -- a book about visionary activism. I'm also the former National Speaker for Greenpeace in the United
States.
As you cruise this site, please be sure to scroll _all the way to the bottom_ of each page so you can click on the links
to ALL pages -- (1) HOME, (2) TIBET: NOW, (3) TIBET: FREE, and (4) THE SPIRIT'S TERRAIN and other writings.
I took the photo above approaching the ethnically Tibetan village of Rö (Nepali: Samagaon) in Nepal, just miles from the
Tibet border, in November of 2000, while trekking with the board of the wonderful nonprofit organization SEEDS (see link).
Rö and the villages nearby were long ago cut off from Tibet when the border was drawn along the Himalayan ridgetops to the
north, but there is a centuries-old tradition of Tibetans escaping to this valley in troubled times.
Though Nepal has today -- sadly -- its own share of troubles, traveling in this area is about as close as you can get
to visiting a free Tibet -- like that which existed prior to the Chinese communist invasion of 1949-50. I write and speak
on the issue of Tibetan freedom; if you care about such things, please follow the Tibet links -- and please read on.
Here's what you'll find on the other pages of my site (last full update, 1/5/03):

TIBET: NOW
Here are notes and photographs relevant to today's Tibet; information about my travels in Tibet and in outlying, ethnically
Tibetan areas; background information; and a few words about a current project that stems from the trip -- a slide lecture,
whose proceeds in part will support the Tibetan cause.
The link to click on for this page is BELOW, not at left.
[TIBET: NOW has a longer load time than this page; the images are fairly high-quality and high-resolution -- and enlargements
are available just by clicking on any photo.]

TIBET: FREE
Dedicated to tomorrow's Tibet, as suggested by some photos of places that capture the essence of the vision.
Again, the link to click on is BELOW, at the very bottom of this page.
[Load time similar to TIBET: NOW. The images may, I hope, make it worth the wait.]
