Bill Moyer's whole book, DOING DEMOCRACY, is a vital roadmap to building successful social change movements. I especially recommend his concluding chapter: "Toward the Future". In it he offers a vitally needed re-orientation for popular movements in the United States to bring us into deeper understanding and cooperation with our indispensible allies in the rest of the world.

Social change activists in many parts of the US have begun meeting in "circles of change" to reflect on their experiences and put their spirituality and work for change into a shared context. By sharing our learnings we can enhance our effectiveness in the near term and our staying power in the long term. SpiritInAction

If you have any doubts about the need for positive change in our beloved country, try reading some old fashioned, Chicago style muck-raking. Sherman Skolnick gets behind the news headlines to details of how the game (Enron, Bush finances, voting irregularities, covert ops) is actually played. You can find many items online at SkolnicksReport and you can order a packet of print-outs if you want. He also has a phone-in news hotline at 773-731-1100.
We all need to use our intuition and critical thinking to sort out the truth for ourselves, especially in these troubled times. Having alternative sources of information is one way to cross-check the stories we hear. I've listed a lot of links to info which points toward a positive future under Inclusive Vision on the 1st page of this site. Here I will briefly review the web links to some of my favorite sources.
Many of these sources include information which may call into question the official story about the 9/11/01 disasters and the rationale for the "War on Terrorism". In particular, former LAPD Narc Michael Ruppert and his investigative team are bringing to light documents which conflict with numerous aspects of the official 9/11 story. He also offers a nice reading list exposing background "secrets" in the lefthand column. These are presented on his From the Wilderness site.
Democracy in America has taken some serious hits; it is up to us to keep it alive and revitalize it through our active participation, nonviolently "outside-the-box" if necessary. We can make it stronger, and wiser than ever.
The Emperor's New Clothes aims to pierce the fog of lies. Common Dreams provides an online center for progressive news and views. Pacific News Service gives an independent view, often informed by views from the margins and the ethnic media at New California Media. Z Magazine often gives in depth and systemic analyses through its online service Znet . If you want sights and sounds you can go to the online links for Democracy Now , Flashpoints , BBC News , and the Independent Media Centers . WebActive presents the Pacifica National News as well as Democracy Now and other radio shows of interest.
In order to keep some balance I try to include some "good news" from Yes! A journal of positive futues, and from Hope magazine. The mother and daughter team of Frankie and Anna Lappe has brought us a world travelogue of positive developments in HOPE'S EDGE, which follows up on Frankie's DIET FOR A SMALL PLANET and Lappe & DuBois' THE QUICKENING OF AMERICA a survey of grass roots action in the US to more fully realize our democracy.
